Artist Statement

Xiaoze Zhang (she/her) is a dedicated full-time PhD student at Camberwell, Chelsea, and Wimbledon Colleges, University of the Arts London (UAL). She is also a painter. Previously, she earned an MLitt in Fine Art Practice (Painting) from the Glasgow School of Art.





Research Interest

She specializes in painting, installation, and animation, with a particular focus on collage as a means of infusing paintings with a non-linear narrative. Through this approach, she explores the subconscious mind and the psychoanalysis of dreams. Her research centers on expanding painting into spatial formats through collage, building upon the foundations of easel painting to push beyond its traditional boundaries. She is also deeply interested in the interactive relationship between spatial painting and its audience, aiming to create immersive and playful viewing experiences.
