I made a transparent shredder containing many"shattered" communication devices in this work. The box has gradually shattered the memories and the time characteristics.
Inspiration
With information explosions, mobile phones have become a part of people's modern life in the modern era. l often think about what mobile phones or data messages mean to us.
In China, due to the current epidemic, everyone needs to scan a QR code to prove their health, without which, they cannot enter high rises, office buildings and shopping malls. When l went shopping in a mall during the epidemic stored my belongings in the mall locker but failed to take my mobile phone with me.l was forbidden to enter the mall because l could not provide the QR code, making me feel worried and anxious. Similarly, when my mobile phone is out of power, l cannot contact my family and friends, making me nervous.
So, l often think, what if people don't know how to use electronics? What would the world look like without a mobile phone?

Conveying through materials
Use of the outer appearance of the box:
In this work, l chose a rectangular acrylic box to make a paper shredder for its outward appearance. We can seethe "shredded items" inside the transparent materials. Smash the complete item into pieces, then put them into thebox, and hope to draw people's attention to the "discarded" items. The movement blade of the paper shredderconveys the cruelty of reality, "shattering" the past, and it is gone forever.
Selection and use inside the box:
1/ Using bank cards, takeaway flyers, banknotes, coins, watches, keyboards, cameras, etc., as materials, mobilephones replace the functions of payment transactions, shopping, catering, camera shooting, etc.
2/ Choose a variety of outdated communicaion tools (landline, keypad phone, flip phone, slide phone, etc.) asmaterials, investicate the evolutionary history of communications, classify them by age, and present them in thebox transitionally. lt aims to convey the development of the times, technological progress, and the complexity of
communication equipment evolution.
3/ Letters, Chinese brushes, ink, maps, postcards etc., are those that people seldom or no longer use to conveyinformation. The application is intended to get people's ancient communication ways that existed in the early dayspassed down to now. lt means the yearning for the past time and hopes to recall people's reminiscent moods. When facing various pressures brought by rapid social changes, one can find a way to balance the mind, escapefrom the status quo, seek relief, and find one's emotional outlet.
Placement at the top of the box:
Insert a half-broken iPhone X smartphone at the top of the shredder, and hope to remind people that the itemscurrently in use are or will be "discarded".
The label on the outer part of the box:
It lists the proportions of the items inside the box, hoping that the audience can intuitively understand the shatteredthings and the era.

Research
As a kind of "medium", mobile phones are entirely invading the lives ofmodern people. The combination of mobile Internet and mobile phones hasbrought a revolution in the relationship between people and media. While themobile phone is reshaping human beings, it also changes people's views ontime and space, living environment, social methods, and social relations.
Through the research on related theories in sociology and communicationscience, it has been discovered that the awareness of Internet “connection'and “sharing"urges everyone to build his communication centre in hisrelationship network and maintain communication and interaction with theoutside world throuah various chains in the relationship network. As the mostindispensable item in today's life, the mobile phone has become a carrier torecord life and express emotions and a tool to express creative desiresMobile phones affect our connection with the outside world, so thatrelationship between us and the unknowns is not determined by distanceanymore. From a realistic perspective, sometimes mobile phone helps us toreduce the face-to-face embarrassment, but it also enlarges the spacebetween people. We, who are constrained by mobile phones. hide ouremotions in mobile phones, become a number to the reality, and reduce ourcommunication and interaction with the real world.
From the perspective of philosophy: "it is inevitable for the new to replace theold." Mobile phones have also replaced many things and facilitated our livesmore. l don't think it is good. After all, the world is only fascinating when it iscolourful. lt is too simple to have one item with so many functions. lt makesour lives faster, and more people become "impatient" and "anxious."l oncethought about some disadvantages of mobile phones, and l was tired ofusing mobile phones day after day. l tried to return to a purer life without amobile phone for one day. Then, will mobile phones be replaced one day?We will also invent more advanced and convenient items to replace them. Sothe past and future always come and go, only now exists forever.
